According to the fundamental accounts of Pliny the Elder's Natural History, which established the origins of drawing, painting and photography, Dibutade's daughter traced her lover's silhouette on a wall to preserve a memory of him. This profile portrait, from the Latin portraire, meaning "to take something from someone", and the Italian ritrarre, "to draw or represent", has survived the centuries.

In my search, from ancient sarcophagi to contemporary works, a thread of "survival" (Aby Warburg) capable of revealing the temporal significance of certain "formulas of pathos", such as "symptoms" (Freud), I identify gestures or signs in which the parameters of human existence are put to the test. The notion of "energy" plays a decisive aesthetic role in this image, giving the viewer a sense of surprise and pain induced by the mixed objects.
